This is one of my favorite ramens in the city now! The broth is unbelievably rich and creamy, and the meat is tender. No reservations but we came for dinner on a weeknight and there were plenty of tables open.
The restaurant was evenly spaced and easy to navigate. Upfront there is a Ramen bar and towards the back is seating for small and larger parties. The Service is pretty standard and they were attentive. I had the Paitan Ramen with Pork Char Siu; the broth was flavorful but a bit on the salty side. The noodles were soft and absorbed the flavor of the broth. The Pork Char Siu was on the drier side with not much fat and did not absorb the broth flavoring. Also tried the Spicy Ramen with Pork Char Siu, it was not too spicy but again the broth was a bit on the salty side and the Pork Char Siu was a bit dry and absent of the broth flavor. Paitan Ramen with Pork Char Siu (4/5) Spicy Ramen with Pork Char Siu (4/5) I've had better Ramen experience at other parts in the city, namely Ippudo but if you are in the area and craving ramen this would hit the spot.
A nice change of pace after most places only having tonkotsu ramen. We got the spicy chicken broth ramen and it didn't feel super heavy. The pork chashu was also tender and not too salty like they can be normally. I got the chicken chashu, and it was basically just a tender piece of chicken breast. Pretty nice after a long night of drinking! The chicken karaage was also decent, but I've had better.
Still so solid after all these years. Got the spicy miso Peitan with pork cha siu, and the rich, creamy broth really hit the spot for a late lunch. The pork wasn't as tender though as I had hoped, hence the 1* deduction. But all in all, it is a great choice in Midtown East.
Great spot in midtown east. Some of the better ramen in the city. I've been here before when I lived in the area. Still as good Staff is polite and the food comes out pretty quickly. There is a bar alongside the kitchen to eat at and then 6-10 tables in the back. Came in for a quick dinner. We ordered: fried chicken ramen: very good. Chicken was very tender and flavorful. Broth was pretty good. Not too spicy, not too salty Spicy miso ramen with chicken: miso was a great add in to the ramen. Deepened the flavor a bit. Unfortunately there was only one small piece of chicken. This dish was a tad salty for some reason. Definitely a good neighborhood spot. There is also one in Hells Kitchen
Atmosphere (4/5): The front of the establishment is a long bar seating that faces the kitchen. The back opens up to a dining room with some tall tables and some regular tables. It is not loud and well lit! Feels like a casual ramen dive spot. Service (4/5): Our appetizers came out a lot longer after our ramen. Food: They have a happy hour menu until 6pm with discounted drinks and 2 options of appetizers. Spicy Paitan Spicy Miso (4/5): The broth was so savory! The half seasoned soft boiled egg was prepared just right. The pork cuts were seasoned well but on the drier side! The wavy noodles were cooked firmer as I requested. I wish there was more toppings to it but it hit the spot. Namban Fried Chicken (2/5): Not sure what they were trying to do with this dish but the fried coating was very uneven. The spicy sauce was okay but the whole dish was underwhelming.
I absolutely love Totto Ramen. This place apparently has long lines, but I arrived right when they opened. The staff was attentive and pleasant. Spicy Paitan Soup (chicken paitan soup topped with housemade spicy sesame oil, bean sprouts, nori, and char siu) is a must-order. You can choose pork or chicken. I like it with pork. Oh! so hearty and satisfying. 4 stars.
